Agricultural Law Society
- The Agricultural Law Society seeks to further the study, pursuit, and advancement of agricultural law, to encourage law students to learn about agricultural law issues and about specialization in agricultural law, and to provide a forum for discussion of issues and to provide a means for students to become actively involved in advocating for agriculture in general.
American Association for Justice (formerly American Trial Lawyers Association)
- The Mission of the American Association for Justice is to promote a fair and
effective justice system ? and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure
that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of
others can obtain justice in America?s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
American Constitutional Society (ACS)
- The American Constitution Society devotes itself to revitalizing and transforming the legal debate from people with
varying perspectives about the law
Black Law Students Association (BLSA)
- BLSA seeks to enhance the welfare and interest of minority groups by assisting with information pertaining to the law
school, the securing of financial assistance, seeing that the curriculum is attentive and relevant to the needs of
minority students and assisting in the preparation of an adequate orientation program for new minority students.
Cardozo Jewish Law Students Association (CJLSA)
- The Cardozo Legal Society was formed in 1988 to serve the religious and cultural needs of Jewish law students.
- The Christian Legal Society's purpose is to engage in devotional activity, to study Christian life and doctrine while
considering the implications of the Christian faith to the study and practice of law.
- The goal of the society is to present a view of the criminal justice system which introduces students to the functions
of various criminal justice and law enforcement agencies.
Delta Theta Phi
- The Environmental Law Society seeks to promote an awareness within the University community and the local region
of the wise use and proper management of the natural environment. Through guest lectures, the society provides a
forum wherein all perspectives concerning environmental legal issues may be addressed. The society further seeks to
promote career opportunities in environmental law in both the public and private sectors.
Federalist Society
- The Federalist Society is an organization of conservative and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal
order. It is found on the principles that the state exists to preserve our freedom, that the separation of governmental
power is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the
law is, not what it should be.
- The First Amendment is a student-run newspaper for the law school.
- The Icelandic Legal Exchange Program is a unique opportunity to experience the legal, cultural, and educational
elements of Iceland. During the fall semester, ONU students host Icelandic law students for a short period of time.
The students are exposed to the American legal system through a series of events organized by the Icelandic
Exchange Board. Similarly, ONU law students travel to Iceland during the winter break for an introduction to the
Icelandic legal system.
- The society encourages student discussion on various aspects of international law. The organization sponsors events
with speakers on international topics and on career opportunities in international law. It also serves as a resources of
information on summer programs abroad.
- It is the purpose of the LAMBDA Law Students' Association to increase and maintain awareness among members of
the Ohio Northern University and the College of Law communities of the concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgendered individuals.
- The Ohio Northern University Law Review, a highly respected law journal of the College of Law, is edited and
published by the students. Published three times a year, the Law Review consists of leading articles on current legal
topics, student comments on legislation and selected symposia presentations on varied legal topics. Membership in the
Law Review has traditionally been on of the highest honors awarded to a student of the College of Law.
- The Law School Democrats seeks to support both the philosophy and the candidates of the Democratic Party, to support all efforts to increase the participation of law students in Democratic affairs, and to promote democratic values and candidates by sponsoring various speakers as well as providing a forum for political discussion.
Law School Veterans Association
- The Law School Veterans Association provides support for past, present, and future military personnel and their families, and to establish a foundation for veterans' interests at Ohio Northern University College of Law.
Legal Association of Women (LAW)
- The Legal Association of Women is designed to promote the discussion of gender issues which concern all members
of the legal profession. The organization sponsors speakers and social events open to the entire student body.
Media & Entertainment Law Society
- The Media & Entertainment Law Society endeavors to increase awareness, offer learning events and research employment opportunities in the fields of media, entertainment, and the arts law for the Ohio Northern University community. They provide a forum for the discussion of the topics of concern to media and entertainment corporations and talent, their agents and managers, as well as to the legal representatives of both groups.
- The primary purpose of the Moot Court Program is to provide an opportunity for law students to improve oral
advocacy and brief writing skills through participation in appellate and trial advocacy competitions.
- The mission of the Public Interest Law Association is to foster a relationship between Ohio Northern University Pettit
College of Law students and members of the community. The Public Interest Law Association will encourage law
students to participate in pro bono opportunities by collaborating with local judges, pro bono attorneys, government
leaders, and legal aid staff, thereby increasing their legal knowledge and facilitating community awareness of the law.
Law students will work with local pro bono and public interest attorneys to identify and assist in substantive areas of
law affecting the low-income citizens of their community. Law students will gain legal experience with the law while
assisting low income citizens otherwise unable to obtain legal assistance.
- Phi Alpha Delta offers law students intellectual stimulus, an opportunity to meet members of the Bar and the chance
for social relaxation with their classmates and professors.
Sports Law Society
- The Sports Law Society helps its members to understand the role of the legal profession in the area of sports and
examines legal issues in both professional and amateur athletics.
- Street Law provides law students with the opportunity to teach legal principles to area high school students. Law students visit area classes over the Spring semester to teach students basic legal procedures and then culimate the term with a mock trial held at the law school. Student coaches can earn pro bono recognition for participation in Street Law.
- All students upon admission to the College of Law become members of the Student Bar Association, and organization
which undertakes students activities of general interests and importance to the College of Law and its program. SBA
appointees sit on all major law school committees. The SBA is affiliated with the Ohio Federation of Law Schools and
the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association.
Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
- The VITA program, initiated by the Internal Revenue Service, provides tax preparation and assistance to low-income and elderly residents of nearby neighborhoods. Law and accounting students at ONU participate in the program and can earn pro bono recognition for their work.
