Constitution:

ARTICLE I: NAME AND AFFILIATIONS
Ohio Northern University Law School Democrats

ARTICLE II: MISSION STATEMENT
Section 1. The mission of the Ohio Northern University Law School Democrats is to support both the philosophy and the candidates of the Democratic Party. Furthermore, the Law School Democrats declare its intention to support all efforts to increase the participation of law students in Democratic affairs.

The Ohio Northern University Law School Democrats will promote democratic values and candidates by sponsoring various speakers as well as providing a forum for political discussion. We seek to get law students more politically active by involving them in campaigns, voter registration and policy matters.

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. Membership is open to all law students enrolled in Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law.
Section 2. The Ohio Northern University Law School Democrats do not categorically deny membership to an individual based on race, creed, ethnic identity, national origin, sex and age, or handicap as defined by law.
Section 3. Members will conduct themselves in a manner that is in accordance with the ethical requirements of the profession.

ARTICLE IV: FINANCES
Section 1. The organization shall maintain an on-campus account following the guidelines of the Controller and Purchasing Office.
Section 2. The President and Treasurer only, will have access to the organization’s financial account.

ARTICLE V: OFFICERS
Section 1. Elected Officers

b. Vice-President
c. Secretary
d. Treasurer
e. Creative Director

Section 2. New positions
a. New positions may be created by a 2/3 vote of currently active members.

ARTICLE VI: ADVISORS


Section 1. The organization will have one internal advisor from the College of Law. The President will be responsible for procuring an advisor for the subsequent academic year before the end of their term as President. I.e., President for the 2007-2008 academic year is responsible for procuring an advisor for the 2008-2009 school year. The President will have sole discretion in procuring the organizations advisor.

ARTICLE VII: MEETINGS
Section 1. Meetings will be held regularly each semester. Meeting frequency will be determined by the President with counsel from the other Elected Officers.
Section 2. Meetings will be communicated to members no less than 72 hours (3 days) prior to the meeting.

ARTICLE VIII: AMENDMENTS
Section 1. Amendments may be proposed by any active member.
Section 2. All proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the President of the organization.
Section 3. Proposed amendments will be brought at the next meeting or within 2 weeks, whichever falls first.
Section 4. Such amendments will receive three readings, the first being the initiation at the meeting.
Section 5. A proposed amendment must receive a 2/3 vote of active members in order to pass.

ARTICLE IX: RESIGNATION OF OFFICERS
Section 1. An officer may at any time relieve themselves from the duties of their position for any reason including but not limited to: illness, removal from school, graduation, or inability to perform duties.
Section 2. An officer shall submit their resignation no later than 1 week before the next organizational meeting.
Section 3. A resigning officer’s position shall be fulfilled pursuant to Article III, section 4 and Article IV, section I of the Bylaws.
