Dean Eugene N. Hanson established a unique program in 1960 when in returning from a Furlbright lecturer at the University of Iceland School of Law. The Icelandic Exchange Program is an intercultural exchange; where each year law students travel to Iceland where they take part in a range of comparative law experiences, in the past students have meet with the Supreme Court Justices, Parliament Members and the Prime Minister of Iceland.

In turn law students from Iceland annually visit the Pettit College of Law to partcipate in a intensive seminar on the legal and judicial processes of Ohio. Peirodically, Iceland law students attend the Petitt College of Law for a semester for a more detailed legal exchange of law.

Over 15% of the Icelandic Bar along with a few hundred Petitt' alumni have participated in the Icelandic Exchange Program.

Ohio Northern recently instituted a full semester exchange program.
