       Dear Ohio Northern Community,

The purpose of the Black Law Student Association (BLSA) is to effectuate change in the legal system. This change begins with each and every one of us, transforming the face of law school. By breaking tradition and adding color to a world that is often too pale, BLSA seeks to add a much needed voice; a different perspective.

Immersed in the twenty first century, we find ourselves too often challenged with questions pondering the need for organizations such as BLSA. Yet, has it not been proven time and time again that change and progress comes in numbers. The only way that we can have an effective presence on this campus and later in the legal field is to stand firmly unified, cultivating our differences into strides forward.

WEB Dubois once said, "the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line." A century later have we made enough strides so that we can effectually say that the problem he spoke of is a problem of the past? To the contrary, it has become even more critical that we are careful not to let these issues fall to the wayside because "the problem" has not gone as far off as some would like to suggest.

The incoming executive board seeks to build upon the foundation already created and not only to continue tradition but to create it. In doing so, we hope to rise our levels of integrity and leave behind the incongruities of the past. Each of us needs to move forward, helping the other along as we go. Clearly, minorities have made there presence felt in both law schools and in the profession, but it is about time that we start making that presence more meaningful.

Respectfully,

2007-2008 ONU BLSA Executive Board
