Professor Helmer joined the College of Law in 2005. Prior to joining the ONU faculty, she taught at the University of Michigan Law School, Capital Law School, was a professor and associate dean for academic affairs at St. Petersburg Institute of Law in St. Petersburg, Russia, and an assistant professor at her alma mater in Kazakhstan.
Professor Helmer was a recipient of the Open Society Institute International Policy Fellowship and served on the Board of Directors of the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law in Washington, D.C.
