The ONU Legal Clinic is located in Lima, Ohio and provides legal services to over 200 individuals per year. The Legal Clinic is ONU's oldest in house clinical program. These cases mainly involve the representation of low income, minority, and elderly clients in matters involving public benefits, administrative, domestic relations, and probate law. Through this representation, students are exposed to practical lawyering skills such as interviewing clients, negotiating settlement agreements, creating discovery plans and pleadings, drafting motions, preparing for and conducting hearings and trials, and writing wills. Students also learn intangible skills such as how to deal with difficult clients, how to work with other lawyers and how judges think and react. Students work under the supervision of the Staff Attorney. The ONU Legal Clinic is available to third year law students and requires a third year practice certificate.
