Externships in Environmental Law

This in an externship with the Ohio EPA located in Columbus. Externs participate in the development of enforcement cases in the areas of solid or hazardous waste, air pollution, water pollution, and emergency/remedial response. The externs will draft briefing memoranda to the Director, enforcement orders to potentially responsible parties and civil or criminal enforcement referral packages for the Attorney General’s Office. Externs will participate in Ohio EPA enforcement committee meetings and agency hearings and be involved in administrative and judicial settlement negotiations. Externs may observe proceedings in front of the Environmental Board of Review and the Hazardous Waste Facility Board as well as attend public hearings relating to environmental issues. Finally, a legal extern may be able to tour environmentally-regulated facilities with other EPA personnel to observe the day- to day operations of these companies.
