Question 1: What free
software is available to me?

Question 2: What are the different printers in the lab used for?
Lexis\Westlaw Printers:
While logged onto the Lexis or Westlaw network, print through the
network, and it will automatically print to the Lexis or Westlaw printers.
Resume\Envelope Printers:
There are two printers provided in the computer lab to print resumes
and envelopes. This allows students to print on resume paper without
interruptions. To use this printer:
Go to File and click Print. Click
on the drop down arrow.

Select HP Laserjet 2420
PCL6. Click OK. |

Question 3: How do I print from my laptop?
Go to Settings, click on Printers
and Faxes, click Add a Printer

Click Next. Choose a network printer or a printer connected to another
computer.
Click Connect to this printer. In the Name blank, type:
\\onuprn1\ti140f01-prn (or) \\onuprn1\ti40f02-prn

Click Next. Click Finish. It may ask you for a username and password;
use "onu\(enter user name to log onto network)", then enter the password
you use to log onto the network.

Question 4: How do I print double-sided and single-sided pages?
Go to File, click Print:

Click Properties:

To print double-sided pages, check Print on Both Sides.
To print single-sided pages, uncheck Print on Both Sides.
Click OK.

Question 5: What else is available in the computer lab?
Document/Printer
Scanner
Turn power button located on left side on. Open lid to scanner. Put
photograph/document face down on glass. Use computer located to the
left of the scanner. After logging in, go to My Computer, Click HP
Scan Jet, Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard. Click Next. Choose
where to save the photograph/document, and rename. Click Next. Wait
for photograph/document to be scanned.
Letter Folder
Lay papers to be folded face up in tray. Pull red button up, line
papers up, and let red button down. Check to make sure proper fold
and measurement is chosen in front and back of machine. Click power
on and hold down the square button until job is finished. Folded letters
will slide down the tray in front of the machine.

Question 6: How do I
send and receive email in Luminis?
After going to the homepage
(www.law.onu.edu or www.onu.edu)
click on the Luminis link located on the page.
- Enter username and password, click Login
- New messages will appear in the Inbox.
- To send an email, click compose at the bottom of Inbox

Question 7: How do I change my password?
On the Network
While you are logged onto the network:
- Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
- Click on "Change Password"
- Enter old password, new password, and confirm the new password
- Follow screen prompts to starting menu, click Cancel
On Luminis
While you are connected to the internet:
- Log onto Luminis
- Click on My Account and the upper left of the screen
- Enter current password, new password, and confirm the new password
- Follow guidelines listed for password length, etc.
- Click Save Changes

Question 8: What is WebCT and how do I access it?
What is it?
WebCT is used by some professors to post notes, assignments, or host online discussions.
How do I access it?
WebCT can be accessed by going to http://webct.onu.edu.
- Click Log into My WebCT
- Enter username and password used to log onto Luminis
- Courses should be listed, but also can be added or removed by using the buttons at the top of the screen.

Question 9: How do I connect to a wireless network?
To connect to a wireless
network, you computer must have wireless capabilities and the radio
button must be turned on. (Usually a symbol located on the keyboard
resembling a tower with sound waves.) Check wireless ranges indicating
that a wireless network is within range. Choose to connect to the
wireless network. (TI Wireless for Law Building.) After the computer
connects, the network will direct you to install Cisco Clean Access.
After downloading Cisco Clean Access, the program will direct you
to install Windows Updates, have an antivirus program present, and
turn on Automatic Updates. After completing this procedure, the network
should allow you to log onto the ONU network.
Wireless network is available on campus, and Northern on Main (coffee shop across from campus).
- What if I don't have wireless on my laptop?
You can plug in at any table or study carrel throughout the library. (This will not require Perfigo identification.)

Question 10: What Internet Services are offered off-campus?
- Embarq DSL 1-800-407-5411.
- Time-Warner Road Runner High Speed Cable 1-800-617-4311.
- WCOIL offers various levels of internet service from dial up to DSL. They can be
reached at 1-888-229-2645 or www.wcoil.com. Our contact at WCOIL is Carol. The enhanced dial
up is billed through the Controller's Office. It is $14.95 a month. For the summer quarter,
(June, July, and August) the cost is $44.85 which is added to your tuition. The cost is $74.75
for fall quarter and the same for spring. For billing questions, please contact the Controller's
Office at 419-772-2021.

Question 11: What are network drives?
Personal Drive (H:)
This drive is only accessible when logged on by your name. The size of this drive is 100GB.
Scratch Drive (S:)
This drive can be accessed by anyone logged onto the network. The size of this drive is 286GB.
Public, Applications
Drive (P:)
This drive is used by professors and faculty. You may be given access to this drive for assignments.
To access any of these drives:
Click File, Open (or) Save

Click on the desired drive.

Question 12: How do I connect to network drives from XP Home?
Connecting to your H: Drive
- Double Click on the My Computer icon.
- Go to the Tools Menu.
- Click on Map Network Drive.
- Change the Drive to H:.
- In the Folder box, type \\onupv2\username where username is your ONU Network Login Username.
- Check the Reconnect at login box.
- Click on the "different than username" link.
- Put onu\username where username is your ONU Network Login Username.
- Put your password in the Password Box.
- Click Ok.
- Click Finish
- Your H: Drive will now show up under the My Computer icon.
Connecting to the I: Drive
- Double Click on the My Computer icon.
- Go to the Tools Menu.
- Click on Map Network Drive
- Change the Drive to I:.
- In the Folder box, type \\pandora\apps
- Check the Reconnect at login box.
- Click on the "different than username" link.
- Put onu\username where username is your ONU Network Login Username.
- Put your password in the Password Box.
- Click Ok.
- Click Finish
- The I: Drive will now show up under the My Computer icon.
Connecting to the P: Drive
- Double Click on the My Computer icon.
- Go to the Tools Menu.
- Click on Map Network Drive
- Change the Drive to P:.
- In the Folder box, type \\pandora\public
- Check the Reconnect at login box.
- Click on the "different than username" link.
- Put onu\username where username is your ONU Network Login Username.
- Put your password in the Password Box.
- Click Ok.
- Click Finish
- The P: Drive will now show up under the My Computer icon.
Connecting to the S: Drive
- Double Click on the My Computer icon.
- Go to the Tools Menu.

- Check the Reconnect at login box.
- Click on the "different than username" link.
- Put onu\username where username is your ONU Network Login Username.

Question 13: What specifications do you recommend for my laptop?
For law school, you basically need to be able to write and do research.
Minimum hardware specifications:
- 512 RAM (memory)
- 20 gig HDD (hard drive)
- Pentium 3 or 4 processor
- Internal wireless 802.11b (wireless is available throughout the law school)
Recommended software:
- Take what is given to you; it is not necessary to pay extra for an operating system, Microsoft Office, or antivirus software.
- We can give you XP Pro, MS Office, Corel WordPerfect, and Norton Antivirus.

Question 14: How do I configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the ONU Postoffice using IMAP?
- Open Outlook by clicking on Start --> All
Programs --> Microsoft Office -->
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. Click on Do
not upgrade.

- On the Account Configuration Screen click Yes.

- On the Email Accounts Screen when asked to pick a Server Type,
click on IMAP. Then click Next.

- Copy this screen exactly as it is except for in Your Name
replace "Joe Student" with your name and replace E-mail
Address with your e-mail address. Then click on More Settings...

- Click on the Advanced tab. Copy this screen exactly as
it is and click OK.

- On the E-mail Accounts screen click on the Finish button.
- When prompted with the Internet Security Warning Screen, click
Yes to continue.
- Your Inbox for Microsoft Outlook will open. Click on the + sign
next to postoffice.onu.edu to see all your folders.

If you are going to send mail from an off campus location you should change your outgoing server to your ISP's (internet service provider) mail server (i.e. AOL, w-coil, etc). Please consult your ISP's documentation for the mail servers name. |
