Veterans Affairs Official To Speak |
James P. Terry, chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will hold an open presentation on the law of war for students and faculty at 1 p.m., Feb. 6, in the Moot Court Room, College of Law. He will discuss the issue of Habeas Corpus as it pertains to the two cases coming before the U.S., Supreme Court as well as the question of why the U.S. has not joined the International Court of Arbitration (ICC). A graduate of the University of Virginia and Mercer University’s law school, Terry holds Master of Laws and a Doctor of Judicial Science from The George Washington University. After a career in the Marine Corps, including four years as legal counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Terry served in the senior executive service in the Department of Interior. He moved to the Department of State in 2001. He was nominated by President George W. Bush in April 2005 and confirmed by the Senate in July 2005 to the position of chairman of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. Terry is the supervisor of Chief Veterans’ Law Judge Cheryl (Cheri) Mason BA '86, who will also attend. At 2 p.m. he will discuss the appellate administrative adjudicative process with the College of Law’s LL.M. students. A reception for Chairman Terry and Judge Mason will take place in the Faculty Lounge at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 6. |
