Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law held its fifth Supreme Court swearing-in ceremony for alumni and faculty members to be admitted to practice before the highest court in the country. Thirty-three alumni and faculty members were sworn in on June 8, 2009, in a ceremony conducted by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. Johnnie Johnson, JD ’70, acted as the movant for the ONU group.

The ONU Law Alumni Office coordinated the event, which also included an alumni and friends dinner the night before at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. Nearly 125 alumni, friends, and family attended as well as several students enrolled in the concurrent JD/LLM program who are in the Washington, D.C. area for their summer internships.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, a group of over 140 inductees and guests convened in the East Conference Room of the Supreme Court for a continental breakfast and reception to celebrate their admission. Following the reception, inductees returned to the courtroom for a presentation by the curator of the Marshal’s Office on the history of the Court and then to the front steps of the building for a group photo.

In addition to the Supreme Court swearing-in ceremony and dinner, the College of Law Alumni Association Board met on June 6, 2009, at the American Inns of Court in Alexandria, Va. and were hosted by BG David P. Carey, JD ’77, USA (Ret.), executive director of the American Inns of Court.
